| I had planned on visiting South Africa in 2012, with an exit through Sudan (via Kartoum) to Egypt and beyond. However, both Sudan (now divided into North and South) and Egypt are still coming to grips with recent changes and are quite restless and that makes planning and actual travel a bit too uncertain in many ways. I decided to give them a little more time to settle down and shifted attention to India and Nepal in early 2013 instead. A hoped-for entry from Nepal (or from still very Red China) into Tibet seems highly unlikely. In view of China's current attempts to re-exert control over the very unhappy Tibetians, even that may have to be put on the back-burner until that issue is settled one way or the other. |

Getting there and away: USAF via Travis AFB, CA, to Yokota AB, Japan, continuing to Paya Lebar AB, Singapore. From there commercial to Bangladesh and South India. Exit, same way in reverse. |
