The ancient stone quarry in Aswan, the origin for much of the material for Egypt's great monuments. One of the most challenging tasks had to be carving the obelisks, to judge from the nearly finished but stress-cracked abandoned remains. The female pharaoh Hatsheptsut herself had four obelisks made here to be placed at the temple of Karnak. |
